Problem Statement
Produce a small Formula One style race car marketable to the average weekend autocross racer.
Project Summary
The Formula SAE competition is an engineering project that is intended to give students instruction and experience in automotive engineering and design. The competition is sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers and three largest domestic auto manufacturers. The students gain knowledge and experience by designing and building an open-wheel race car to specifications set by the sponsors. For purposes of this project, a hypothetical design scenario is outlined by the competition rules. The team has been hired by a private manufacturing firm to create a prototype for a miniature open-wheel race car that will be marketed to the non-professional weekend autocross racer. The final design will be evaluated at the competition in the spring of 2006. The team will compete against other design teams in a series of events that will demonstrate the performance, reliability and marketability of the prototype.
