Here are some common issues that have come up in presentations so far that could be improved:
- Have at most 3 people present
- At the beginning of the presentation \”Tell them what you’re going to tell them,\” then \”Tell them,\” and at the end \”Tell them what you told them.
- Speak clearly and don’t lower your voice at the end of sentences.
- Don’t use venacular (e.g., \”and stuff like that\”)
- If you’re going to use a technical Acronym (e.g., FEA), explain it once.
- While you are presenting, have the rest of your team sit in the front row.
- Have someone else in your group advance your slides for you.
- If you are going to introduce all your team members, either have pictures in your presentation or have your team members standup/acknowledge the audience
- Introduce the speaker that follows you and a short lead in to what they’ll be talking about (SPEAK CLEARLY).
- Keep your hands out of your pockets.
- Bringing in prototypes to pass around is great if you have one.
- When showing your project schedule, DO NOT show your full pert/gantt chart. Show only a few key milestones in a bulleted list.
- Make sure the audience knows where you are and where you’re going along with issues you’re having and how you’ll resolve them.
